My Portfolio
Howdy, welcome to my portfolio! I’m Alex and I am a freelance writer and journalist living in Dallas, Texas. I am currently looking for freelance and part-time employment while pursuing my masters degree in counseling.
I have a diverse background that includes reporting on local politics in my hometown, Oklahoma City, and writing news scripts for Rogue Rocket, a YouTube news channel based in Los Angeles.
Take some time to look at some of my work and please feel free to email me at wordsbymyers@gmail.com if you have any questions or would like to collaborate. You can also follow me on LinkedIn.
I worked for Oklahoma City Free Press where I’ve been reporting on local senate, house, and city council races.
I hosted a podcast for The Gayly, which is a historical LGBTQ+ newspaper based in OKC. We talk to a variety of queer people from around the U.S.
I worked as an associate producer for acclaimed YouTuber Philip DeFranco’s channel, Rogue Rocket. While there, I researched, produced, and wrote scripts for deep dive explainer videos about topics not usually covered by mainstream outlets.
I love music and I’m a musician, so I try to cover music news as much as I can. I briefly worked as a music news writer for MXDWN and did some features on local L.A. artists for Altangeles.
During my time in college at Loyola Marymount University, I worked as the assistant opinion editor for my college’s paper, the Los Angeles Loyolan. Working at the Loyolan was a formative experience for me as I was given the freedom to report on virtually any topic.
